Understanding Client Role in zipBoard
A Client is an external stakeholder, such as a customer, SME or executive, whom you add to a zipBoard project to review content and give feedback without seeing your internal tasks and discussions. The Client role is available on the Enterprise plan.
What does a client do in zipBoard?
- Understand your role as a client: Know your responsibilities and how your input contributes to the project's success.
- Communicate with the project team: Use clear communication channels so feedback is exchanged on time.
- Review and approve content: Review and approve project deliverables efficiently.
- Convert feedback into tasks: Turn your feedback into clear tasks for the team.
Here's how you can review a digital asset.
What is the Client role in the Enterprise plan?
Clients, SMEs and executives need to stay informed and give feedback, but they don't need to see internal workflows, task updates or project management details. zipBoard lets you add these external stakeholders as Clients to your projects. With the Add Client button and advanced permission settings, you give clients exactly the access they need.
Clients can:
- View and give feedback on shared files, comments and messages.
- Convert feedback into actionable tasks.
- Work in a clutter-free experience without being exposed to internal activities or discussions.
Why it's beneficial
- Streamlined collaboration: Focused client access reduces back-and-forth and keeps feedback on track.
- Privacy preserved: Internal team discussions, tasks and workflows stay private.
- Efficient workflow management: Clearer communication means fewer misunderstandings and faster approvals.
Use cases by industry
- AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction): Collaborate with clients, subcontractors and consultants while keeping project details secure.
- eLearning: Share course content with SMEs for review without exposing development notes.
- Marketing and design: Collect client feedback on campaigns and visuals without revealing internal drafts.
- Software development: Collect user feedback during beta testing while keeping internal sprint details private.
How it works
- Add your client with the Add Client button in the Collaborators tab.

- Share files with customizable permissions:
- Let clients view all boards or specific boards.
- Allow them to add comments or start new reviews.
- Use advanced settings to control which feedback is visible to whom.

- Convert comments into tasks for follow-up.
Can my clients be external collaborators on my zipBoard project?
Yes. Share your project files with clients through a share link so they can review your work and give feedback at any phase of the project, without access to your internal team's activity. If you want clients to see the feedback and approve or reject it, add them to the project as a Client instead.

Can my client get messages from the project team?
Yes. On the Enterprise plan, the project team can send messages to clients. In the Messages tab, select Message for clients & collaborators. Learn more about the Message feature.
