How to Add a Start File?

At zipBoard, we know getting your SCORM files reviewed quickly is important. Sometimes, however, a seemingly valid SCORM file might not launch for review right away. This is because SCORM packages don't inherently specify a starting point.

What's a Start File?

Think of a SCORM file as a toolbox. It contains all the pieces needed for your eLearning course, like HTML pages, images, and activities. But unlike a traditional program, there's no single "run" button. A start file, often named "index.html" or "launch.html", acts as that button, telling the SCORM player where to begin.

Why is This Happening?

There are a couple of reasons why zipBoard might not automatically detect the start file:

  • Non-Standard Naming: Sometimes, authoring tools might use different file names for the launch file. ZipBoard is looking for common names like "index.html" but might miss it if it's called something else.
  • Missing File: In rare cases, the SCORM package itself might be missing the start file entirely.

Why You Might Need to Add One?

Authoring tools typically include a start file by default. However, some developers might create custom SCORM packages or use older authoring tools that don't automatically include one. This can lead to confusion for zipBoard's review system.

How to Continue?

Don't worry, fixing this is a simple process:

  1. Click the "Add Start File" button. This will open a pop-up window.
  2. You'll see a list of files within your SCORM package. Look for files named "index.html" or "story.html" – these are the most likely candidates.
  3. If you see the file you need, select it.
  4. Click "Save".

zipBoard will now use the selected file as the starting point for your review. Easy as that!
