How to Measure an Area and Angle on a Document?

Select your preferred area measurement tool from the Measure tab (Area, Ellipse, or Rectangle). Click or drag on your drawing canvas to define the boundary. zipBoard automatically calculates the area and the angle on your document.

When to Use the Area Tools?

zipBoard offers three distinct area tools tailored to different document geometry:

Area Tool (Irregular Shapes): Best for measuring complex, non-standard shapes or custom room layouts (e.g., L-shaped rooms, angled roof sections, or non-rectangular site boundaries).
Rectangle Tool: Best for fast, standard four-sided spaces (e.g., standard offices, hallways, rectangular floor tiles, or parking spaces).
Ellipse Tool: Best for circular or oval structures (e.g., circular columns, round meeting pods, landscaping features, or curved plazas).

How to Use the Area Tools?

Open Your PDF Document: Open your drawing or plan set in the zipBoard viewer.
Go to the Measurement Menu: Click the Measure tab in the top markup toolbar.
Select Your Area Tool: Choose Area (for irregular shapes), Rectangle, or Ellipse from the dropdown menu.
Draw the Area on the Canvas:
- For Area (Irregular): Click along the corners of your shape to create points, then double-click to close the polygon.
- For Rectangle or Ellipse: Click and drag across the shape to cover the boundary.
Verify or Adjust Scale: Check the markup properties panel to ensure the correct calibration is applied. Your surface area and perimeter calculations will update automatically based on the selected scale.

Will changing the scale on an area annotation affect my existing straight-line or arc measurements?

No. Scales are assigned independently per annotation. Modifying or creating a new scale for an area markup will not reset or alter any other markups on the canvas.

Yes. External stakeholders and guest reviewers can access the Area, Ellipse, and Rectangle tools without needing to sign up or log in.
