So I've been given a zipBoard share link, now what?

If you've been given a zipBoard share link, click it to open the shared file in zipBoard's review tools and leave your feedback. Every share link lets you view the file; depending on the permissions the sender chose, you may also see other reviewers' comments, add your own comments, or need to sign up or log in first.

Share links are a quick way for zipBoard users to get feedback on a file they've uploaded to a project. All share links let you view the file, and they combine three settings:

  1. Required signup/login
  2. View the document along with other reviewers' comments
  3. View the document and add your own comments

These settings combine into six kinds of reviewer access:

The person who sent you the share link should tell you its access level. When in doubt, ask them. For more on these permissions, see Different Share Link Options.

What can I do with a View All Boards/Reviews Only share link?

You can view the shared file along with the comments and annotations of others who have reviewed it, but you can't create annotations of your own.

You'll likely see pencil drawings, highlighted text, boxes and arrows on the upload, along with their comments.

What can I do with an Add New Boards/Reviews Only share link?

You can view the shared file and create your own annotations and comments on it, but you won't see what other reviewers have said.

What can I do with a View All + Add New Boards/Reviews share link?

You can view the shared file along with other reviewers' comments and annotations, and you can create your own annotations and comments on it.

You'll likely see pencil drawings, highlighted text, boxes and arrows on the upload, along with their comments, and you can add your own.

Click the share link to launch your review. Depending on the type of upload shared with you, you may be asked to install a browser plugin first. You only need the extension to review live websites/URLs and courses hosted online; PDFs, images, videos, audio and zipped SCORM/HTML files open in the browser without it.

  1. If a plugin is required, click the green Install Chrome Extension button in the middle of your screen. This opens the extension store, where you can download the plugin for free.

  2. Once it's installed, go back to the tab where you opened the link and refresh it, or open the link again from the email you received. You should now see the upload with zipBoard's review tools in the frame. If this is your first time using zipBoard, a quick walkthrough explains the tool.

  3. After the onboarding messages, you're ready to start your review.

The comments you make on the upload become tasks for the project members, so all you have to do is write down what you think needs to be revised. For more on the available tools, see What are the Annotation Tools in zipBoard?

Do I have to verify my email?

Only if the share link requires you to sign up or log in. In that case, verify your email in four steps.

Step 1: Sign up or accept an invitation

When you create a new zipBoard account or click an invitation link from a teammate, you're prompted to enter your email address and set a password. Once you submit the form, zipBoard automatically sends a verification email to that address.

Step 2: Check your inbox

Open the inbox for the email address you signed up with. Look for an email from zipBoard with a subject line similar to "Verify your email address" or "Confirm your zipBoard account". It typically arrives within 1–2 minutes.

Tip: If you don't see it in your primary inbox, check your Spam, Junk, or Promotions folder. Corporate email systems and filters sometimes route automated emails there.

Step 3: Click the verification link

Open the email and click the Verify Email button or link. A browser tab opens confirming that your email has been validated.

Note: To keep our mail servers from being overwhelmed, this button has a 30-second cooldown. If it's grayed out, wait for the countdown to reach zero and try again.

Step 4: Start using zipBoard

Once verified, you have full access to your zipBoard account. You can create projects, annotate files, collaborate with your team, and receive all notifications.
