What is a Project Phase?

The project phase defines the stage in which the work is presently progressing. 

For example, they are terms like "ideation"; "design", "development", etc. 

A phase can also be defined for different stages of tasks too. For example, they can be "to-do", "currently doing", "pending review" etc, but instead of stages of product development, they are stages of various tasks through a scrum.
