Can I share a view-only link for reviewers in construction drawing approval?
To ensure timely approvals, zipBoard allows you to share project files via View-Only Links. This feature eliminates Login Friction, allowing external stakeholders, such as clients, consultants, and subcontractors, to access and review drawings immediately without needing to create an account.
Key Benefits
- No-Login Access: External reviewers can open the link directly in their browser.
- Unified Source of Truth: Reviewers always see the latest version of the drawing, preventing the common issue of working from outdated local copies.
- Contextual Feedback: Annotations and markups are anchored directly to the drawing canvas, ensuring feedback is precise and actionable.
How to Share a View-Only Link
Follow these steps to generate a secure, external-facing review link:
- Access Project Settings: Log into your zipBoard dashboard, open your project, and navigate to the Project Settings tab.

- Invite Reviewers: Select the option to Invite Collaborators or Clients. See the Roles & Permissions Guide here to understand the differences.
- Choose Invitation Method: Select whether you want to send the invitation via Email or by generating a shareable Link.
- Configure Security Settings: Customize the access for your reviewer. You can toggle settings to determine if the reviewer is required to log in, if they must enter a password, or if you prefer a no-login frictionless experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I revoke access to the link?
Yes. You retain full control over your project data. You can deactivate the view-only link by setting a time limit or an expiriry date.
Do reviewers need training to use the link?
No. The interface is designed for simplicity. Reviewers can click the link and begin marking up the drawing using the toolbar, with no onboarding required.
How is this different from sending a PDF attachment?
Sending a PDF creates a static file that you cannot control once it leaves your inbox. By using a view-only link, you are hosting a centralized collaborative platform. If you upload a new revision, the reviewer sees it immediately, eliminating the need to send updated email attachments.
